New Psychedelia was a collaborative project I curated and produced between Beautiful Losers and acclaimed artist Kelsey Brookes that featured a limited-edition collection of skateboards released on the occasion of his exhibition "Gradient Paintings". The one-run-only collection featured Brookes' signature and intricately detailed psychedelic paintings, with each skateboard fully hand dipped in a base coat of lacquer, giving a sculptural quality to each piece. Brookes is a former scientist who uses his background in biological and empirical methodology to develop his studio practice, adopting ideas found in logic and natural systems such as molecular and atomic structures or number sequences to build compositions that blur boundaries between the analytic and the creative. This approach drives the foundation of lively and colorful work that is both meticulously crafted and conceptually rigorous, with his intricate paintings finding a unique balance within the juxtaposition of subjectivity and objectivity, as well as theory and aesthetic. The New Psychedelia collection translated Brookes' vibrant psychedelic visual language into functional skateboard art, continuing Beautiful Losers' commitment to making contemporary art accessible through wearable and collectible forms. I authored and strategized the comprehensive social media campaign for the project, creating engaging content that amplified the collection's launch through deep and authentic storytelling.
