MAELSTROM
For Carmel Partners’ Alloy complex, a luxury mixed use development in the downtown Los Angeles Arts District, I created a comprehensive cultural programming strategy that would establish the property as an internationally recognized cultural destination. As part of this strategy, I produced MAELSTROM, a collaborative project between contemporary artist Andrew Schoultz and Beautiful Losers that featured both an art exhibition and a limited-edition capsule collection. The exhibition included a survey of Schoultz's significant works, while Beautiful Losers released a one-run-only capsule collection that included custom dyed t-shirts, hoodies with hand embroidery and complex printing techniques, custom cut-and-sew jackets, technical performance wear, and hand-dipped lacquer skateboards with sculptural dimensionality, including a lenticular board with moving graphics. The project aimed to translate Schoultz's visual and conceptual language into functional, wearable forms, continuing his commitment to accessibility and mass communication by collapsing boundaries between object and message. Through strategic curation and execution of projects like MAELSTROM, I successfully elevated Alloy from a mixed-use development into a globally relevant cultural hub that attracts international attention across art, fashion, music, and experiential retail.
